Susan called to see me about having this photo copied and reproduced. It was a photo of her Grandfather, William Boyd, whom served in the Gordon Highlanders (Scotland) during World War II. The photo had suffered from the effects of “silvering out”. This is caused where silver oxides in the photo reach the surface and revert back to silver, hence the silvery reflection.
I was able to remove this effect in the photo, give it a sepia colour then print. Susan otherwise wanted the photo left in original condition with minor marks and scratches.
William Boyd immigrated to New Zealand in 1952, working in the woolen mills of Onehunga. He died 12 years ago aged 91.

Trinette came to see me about having this photo cleaned up, restored and enlarged. It was of Omapere Wharf, Northland in the early 20th century. Measuring 21 x 16cm in size, Trinette wanted the photo enlarged to 46cm wide but was concerned enlarging the image would leave it grainy and blurred.
I scanned the photo while Trinette was watching then zoomed in to look at all the detail. She was blown away when I was able to show how clear the photo actually looked. In the bottom portion we could make out men fishing off the end of the wharf!
I cleaned up the photo, removing all marks and scratches then printed the photo at the larger size. Trinette was amazed at how clear the final print came out. So if you’re wanting to make a small photo bigger - it can be done! As long as the original photo is clear and sharp, making it bigger is easy.
