After two weekends of bad weather and a lot of time doing extra umpiring duties, I was able to take some photos of more hockey games. In mens’ games, in Reserve Okaihau played Kamo High. Div 1 men saw Maungakaramea play Ruatangata and in JMC girls B grade, Hikurangi played Kerikeri. Here, player umpire Matt, from Maungakaramea queries a decision by the ref.

  • I updated the website with more information on the process of making a canvas print and how it’s mounted. I also separated the photo prints section onto another web page. More additions in progress….

Rachel from Art Of Nature 2000 contacted me to make this lovely mounted canvas print. As mentioned in a previous blog article I make limited edition fine art canvas prints for Rachel. This new addition is a night time time-lapse image taken at Cape Reinga, Northland, New Zealand. Rachel’s website can be viewed at: Art of Nature 2000

    canvas-print-bush-scene

Judy called me about having a bush scene printed onto canvas. It was a thankyou present for a colleague whom has worked at the Northern Regional Council, Whangarei, for a large number of years.

The scene is from Waipoua River in the Waipoua Forest, Northland, New Zealand, taken by Alan from “Bee Scene”. The mounted canvas was 600mm x 400mm, made with a black border and a thank you caption at the bottom. Judy was thrilled with the look of the vibrant colours and contrast the canvas did to the photo. Alan has a gallery where you can view more of his great photography: Bee Scene

Ian from Kerikeri came to see me about having some high quality photo prints made from his recent trip to Europe. Ian had a series of artistic images which he’d selectively turned to black and white and left portions in colour.

Ranging from 8 x 12inch prints to ones 1000mm wide, Ian will have them all framed and hung in his house. I was really impressed with Ian’s photography. I asked him if he was a professional photographer, to which Ian replied he wasn’t. Ian just has a really great eye for a scene!

The first photo is a nice sunset beach scene, the next two are semi coloured photos taken in Venice. Printed on my Epson Luster Satin finish paper they looked wonderful.

    restore-and-print-old-photo-from-photocopy

Eileen came to see me about having this old colonial photo of her relatives restored. The original photo with all its marks and scratches had been copied and printed onto photocopy paper. I get a lot of photos like this. Customers think that framing them will look good, but photocopies don’t last long. Printing them onto photo paper will enhance and preserve the image.

The biggest problem with photo copies is they don’t capture much of the detail of the original photo. I always ask my customers if they have access to the original as this will make a far better reproduction. Only use a photocopy if that’s all there is.

This image was scanned, all the marks removed, then enhanced and printed looking 100% better. Eileen was very impressed with the improvement.

    field-hockey-photo-internation-Blacksticks-New-Zealand-Argentina

I was privileged over the weekend to take field hockey photos of two international test games between the New Zealand Black Sticks and Argentina women, in Whangarei, Northland. In a series of three, Argentina dominated the game with outstanding skill and pace. Argentina is ranked 2nd in the world, New Zealand 11th. Before a packed crowd, Northland spectators got to see some home town girls play for New Zealand. With 7 team members originating from Northland, we’re a great region for creating international players.

In the first game Argentina won 7-4, the 2nd 4-1. In the top photo Black Stick Kate Mahon takes on Daniela Sruoga. Middle, Anna Thorpe, whom plays local hockey for Maungakaramea, makes an attack in her debut macthes. And in the bottom photo, world number 1 player, Argentina’s Luciana Aymar, takes on Northlander Charlotte Harrison, left, and Krystal Forgesson (Auckland), right.
