Chris came to see me about having this Mount Manaia photo put onto canvas. Mount Manaia is located at Whangarei Heads, Northland New Zealand. This photo was taken after a particulary stormy period. The photo was already cropped quite thin, so I needed more image for the wrap around portions of the canvas. Where the white lines are, I addeed in the sky and surrounds to still maintain a natural look. Chris was absolutely thrilled with the end print. The canvas print measured 24 x 6 inches.

Richard Robinson from

  • newzealandartist.com
  • came to see me about having a giclee canvas print made of one of his paintings. Richard does excellent landscape paintings inspired by the surrounds of where he lives in the Ruakaka district, Northland New Zealand.

Richard wanted high quality giclee reproductions of a standard that would reflect the quality of his original paintings. He bought in a large digital file of a scan of his painting “Coming Home II”, measuring 64 x 24 inches in size. I did some intial small proof prints to ensure the colours were as close to the final as possible. The final print was made and coated. When Richard saw the giclee print he was very impressed with the end result and ordered more copies. Richard said he’d be happy to use my services in the future.

Sharon from Waimate, South Canterbury, New Zealand, contacted me regarding having this severely water damaged photo repaired. She emailed me a good quality scan, enabling me to examine the photo then restore it. At lot of damage had been done, but luckily the worst portions were on the sky, road and grass.

I fixed the photo as good as possible and emailed the photo back. Sharon’s response was :

“You are most welcome to use the image on your website, we are so impressed with the restoration you have done on the image. Thanks heaps

I will get Alistair to add the history relating to the photo.

Alistair here, that photo is of my Great Grandfather, William John Boyce. It was taken some time before 1954 just before the power lines were put through the Waituna District of Waimate. The horses are his working team, the one he is sitting on is Duke. The land to the right is his farm which is now my farm, which makes me the fifth generation to own and farm the property. The hills in the back ground are the Hunter Hills, which were at the time farmed by CentreWood Farms own by the Sutherlands.

The photo was taken by my Dad, Alfred Colin Boyce, he was about thirteen at the time.

We are unsure as to how the photo was damaged so badly but this image is one of only three we have of him working the land.”

If there was going to be a photo made into a large canvas print, this would be it. Judith Going came to me with these old photos of the Onerahi foreshore, Northland New Zealand, taken in the late 19th/early 20th Century. She wanted them joined into a panorama then have them restored as good as possible.

The photos were very hard to join as there was no overlap, but I eventually got a nice photo panorama. The detail of the final scanned image was amazing. The zoomed in photo shows the “H.A. Going General Shop” owned and run by Judith Going’s distant relatives. The image at the top shows the final photo print, enlarged to over 30 inches wide. The detail in the image could have easily made it 10 times bigger.
