  • Photo-altering-removing-man

Jean sent me this photo alteration job where the man needed to be removed from the image. The man was taken out, the background filled in. The woman’s skin had faded so I added some more colouring to it. The trickiest part was getting the hair shape right where the man had been against it. I had Jean look at a preview to make sure the hair looked correct. Once approved by Jean the photo was printed.

    Large signage print

In a previous blog I showed some prints coming off the Z3100 printer of signage for a medical conference to be held in Rotorua New Zealand. It was the General Practice Conference and Medical Exhibition. Leon from Conference Matters had got me to do all the prints for his signs. Leon said the printing was a complete success, people asking whom had done the printing. Leon did most of the legwork himself attaching the prints to corflute and assembling them all. Here are two photos, the top one showing the event sign - 7m x 2m and the entry booth for all conference attendees. The top sign measures 6m wide.

    Large-Canvas-Print-of-Flower

Ryan came to me with this macro photo of a flower closeup to put onto canvas. He was wanting something vibrant to hang on the wall of his new house. Using just a point and shoot digital camera, Ryan’s photo was printed onto canvas measuring over 1m x 1.4m to produce this 950mm x 1300mm framed canvas print.

When Ryan first saw the final canvas print on the frame he was blown away, saying he’d back for more prints. The only downside was the canvas being too large to fit in his car! I was happy to drop it off to his work place where his workmates looked on enviously.

I thought I’d try out one of the big online printing services to see what their print quality was like. As they were offering 15c a 6 x 4 print at the time I thought I’d give them a go. Naturally with a site this large their automation of downloading and paying photos is better than what my little site can do.

Needless to say the prints arrived back. The print paper was ok, a little thinner than my own paper. The colour was slightly less saturated than my own prints, but not bad I suppose for the price.

The real let down were the black and white prints - they had a bluish colour to them! Quite disappointing really, my own prints come out as pure true neutral black and whites. At the end of the day I can’t match the prints on price and I don’t intend doing so. But I like to think my quality is better.

    Field Hockey Photo Action

More galleries added over the weekend of senior grade hockey action from the Northland Hockey Association. Here we see a Maungakaramea player take the attack to a Mangapai defender.

  • Now making a few changes to the website. Primarily offering more information on the canvas printing/mounting side of things. Compared to other sites my information is very summarised. The hardest part I find in making my own website is the writing and description. Informative, but not boring and still suited to bot searches by the main searches engines. This will take time but the changes will come. First step has been to update the printing page with a couple of photos of the canvas frames with the way it is mounted. More to follow…

    Large Format Signage Print

Leon from Conference Matters wanted some printing done for a large medical conference he’s organising for later in June. He needed large prints up to 7m long, 900mm high that he could use for signage inside and outside the conference venue. Leon needed paper that could be mounted onto corflute and was of a good standard for the 4 days of presentation. Normally I don’t offer this sort of service, but being a typical kiwi got stuck in. Leon gave me pre-designed EPS files which I then printed off. Over 53 metres of prints in varying lengths were done. Here’s a photo of one of the prints coming off the Z3100 - which handled the job with ease. I don’t aim to be a signage printer specialist, but I can do the odd job if it’s what the customer’s wanting and I’m able to do it for them.
