Repair old soldier photo

Fred came to me with this photo of a soldier whom fought in World War I. The photo was fixed with removal of all the marks and fading with enhancement of the contrast.

Fred found out that the man was his grandfather and only that his surname was Yearbury. He fought and died in France. He now rests in one of the French cemeteries. Now that Fred has this small amount of information he’s keen to learn more about this previously undiscovered relative.

Water damaged photo repaired

This photo was badly water damaged during the Northland floods, New Zealand, over 12 months ago. The photo had been hand painted to colour originally, so this had turned into a large smear. The woman’s cheek, nose, blouse and right side background had suffered the most damaged, requiring a slow and careful restoration. The cheek and nose portions had to be rebuilt. A new background was created, easier than fixing the original. Cost of repairs had been covered by insurance.

photo-torn-in-half

Claudia sent me this wedding photo completely torn in half. It was in need of a lot of restoration and repair. The photo was scanned in two separate pieces, the edges lined up so the join was close to perfect. Then the missing pieces were slowly rebuilt and filled in until the photo looked as original as new as possible . Claudia was very pleased with the end result and I’ll be showcasing it on my main website in the restoration section.

Removing the people
This photo was sent to me for a straight forward photo alteration. The customer wanted only the woman remaining on the left. The other people were removed, with the background filled in. As always, the image is altered so that no one looking at it would be able to see any changes.

Adding in the man

Gerald came to me with a group photo in need of alteration. He had some photos taken of members of the Tutukaka coast guard. There were two photos that required merging together as they needed to swap places while taking the photos. Gerald made sure they left a space to allow the missing man to be added. The man was copied from one photo and blended into the final print. 10 copies 56cm wide were made for fellow coastguard members

Restoration nearly beyond help

This photo was sent to me in bad need of some photo restoration and repair. The ravages of time had nearly finished off this hand coloured photo. First looking at it, I gave it about a 30% chance of being fixed. Luckily I had another small photo of the man’s face (in black and white) to work with as a guide. I was thus able to repair and rebuild all the lost parts of the image, and even alter the facial features (trim the face a bit) to match the guide photo. While not 100% perfect, given the amount of damage, the customer was thrilled with the end result.

Restoring Rugby Team

Raewyn Bell came to me with an old school rugby team photo in need of repair. The photo was of the Kings College 2nd XV rugby team of 1928. Kings College is a private school in Auckland, New Zealand. I copied only the photo itself for restoration. It was more effective to recreate the wording and surround from scratch. An interesting fact is R.Waterhouse middle row 2nd from right, and A.S Bell front row far right, both had grandchildren whom ended up marrying each other - an amazing coincidence! Raewyn had 5 x 11×14 inch copies made to pass on to other relations.
