Restoration WorkNo Comments

Lyn came to me with this small photo in need of some photo repairs. It had been stained and faded over the years. The photo shows 9 people whom were in a ship that sunk in Whangarei Harbour, New Zealand, Oct 2 1892 (I didn’t get the name of the ship). The middle man in the image as the only survivor. The image had heavy staining, especially around the writing at the bottom. I didn’t do a full restoration, the cost would have been too prohibitive. However the look I gave still retained an aged look. The photo was enlarged to show more detail. Lynn will be back for more copies once her relations have seen it.

Rachel contacted me through my website enquiring about getting some photos turned to black and white then printed onto canvas. This particular one required the man on the left removed, with the resulting background filled in. The image was then turned to black & white, then mounted onto a 15 x 15cm square gallery wrapped canvas frame. This and two other photos, both turned to black and white and mounted on 15cm x 15cm blocks, were given as Valentines Day presents.

Isobel came to me with this photo of a group of men taken in the 1960s. Isobel looks after the man 2nd from left back row these days - he’s confined to a wheelchair. The photo had orginally been in colour but the chemicals in the photo had deteriorated to such an extent that this red hue was all that was left. Conferring with Isobel, it would be more economical to turn it to black and white than try to recolour it. All small marks were removed to make the photo look as good as possible. Isobel was very pleased with the end result and liked the B&W effect better.

Jill came to me with two large aerial photos showing portions of Great Barrier Island. Taken by Whites Aviation, the photos were precious to Jill as she used to live there when she was younger. I removed the photos from their frames, did multiple scans of the images, then stitched them together to form one large panoramic image again. Each photo measured 67 x 38cm. Jill ordered extra copies of the photos to give away to family and friends and was very happy with the final and improved prints.

Canvas PrintingNo Comments

Louise, from Louise Panther Photography, came to visit me regarding printing wedding photos onto canvas. Louise does wedding photography in Whangarei and had been disappointed with the quality of canvas work she was previously receiving. After showing her some canvas mounted samples Louise ordered some for her own clients. Here is one of her works - ready to print before mounting - the black strip is for the sides with the white on the rear. This particular one is a black and white with coloured area. The HP Z3100 printer is easily capable of printing true neutral black and whites in combination with colour. Louise was very impressed with the final results.
